Academic and Cultural Activities

Our association organises various academic and cultural activities with the aim of strengthening solidarity among our members and introducing Turkey and Turkish culture to the spouses of foreign diplomats in Turkey.

Within this framework, Turkish language lessons, art workshops, conferences, concerts, exhibitions and cultural tours, as well as gastronomy events showcasing Turkish and international cuisines, help build bridges of friendship between our foreign friends and our members.

2023

Participation in the Civil Society Meetings Workshop on December 22, 2023, marking the 100th anniversary of the Republic.

On November 21, 23, 28, and 30, 2023, SHOM members attended Ebru (traditional marbling art) classes at the Ankara Institute of Traditional Arts.
In 2023, “Turkish Language and Culture” classes were delivered by Adem Karaoğlu, specialist educator and member of the 43rd Term Executive Board.
As part of the Ambassadors Conference on August 8, 2023, DMEDD organized a gathering that included a detailed presentation on its 2023 activities, strategic plans and recommendations, a survey, and the second event of the Centennial Seminar Series: Atatürk, Ankara, and the Early Years of the Republic.
On June 15, 2023, as part of the Diplomacy Academy Program, DMEDD delivered a presentation to our newly appointed representatives.
On June 5, 2023, at the Residence of the Indian Ambassador, Zeynep Ağacıkoğlu led a special session titled “An Introduction to Mindfulness: The Magic of Being Present.”
On June 3, 2023, we hosted a brunch in Ankara with our university scholarship students.
On May 9, 2023, we launched the “Centennial Seminar Series” with our first program: The Transformation Story of Kızılay, the Capital’s Square. Esteemed speakers—Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Varol, Prof. Dr. Aydan Sat, Assoc. Prof. Dr. S. Bahar Yenigül, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Z. Aslı Gürel—shared their insights on the historical and cultural evolution of this iconic public space.
On April 12, 2023, within the framework of the Diplomacy Academy Program, DMEDD delivered a presentation to candidate career diplomats.

On November 4, 2022, as part of the Diplomacy Academy Program, DMEDD delivered a presentation to newly appointed representatives.
On November 3, 2022, the U.S. Ambassador’s Residence hosted a screening of Ümran Safter’s documentary Leave the Door Open, followed by a conversation with the director.
On May 29, 2022, we brought together our alumni and scholarship students for a conversation on “Career Planning.
On May 24, 2022, as part of the Diplomacy Academy Program, DMEDD delivered a presentation to newly appointed representatives.

On March 7, 2022, in honour of International Women’s Day, we hosted a screening of award-winning director Eylem Kaftan’s film Vendetta Song (İsmi Güzide) followed by a conversation with the filmmaker.

On December 19, 2021, we hosted a brunch gathering with our recent alumni—who completed their university studies within the last five years—and our current university scholarship students.
On December 9, 2021, in collaboration with the Turkish-Japanese Foundation, DMEDD hosted a lecture on “Traditional Turkish and Ottoman Embroidery,” presented by Alper Yurdemi.
During October and November, within the framework of the Diplomacy Academy Program, DMEDD delivered presentations to candidate career diplomats and to young diplomats—and their spouses—preparing for their first overseas assignments.
On June 8, 2021, DMEDD hosted an online conversation with Neyzen Burcu Karadağ.
On May 28, 2021, DMEDD hosted an online presentation and discussion of the Erimtan Museum, led by Museum Director Nazan Gezer.
